davemoss 0 Posted August 15, 2007 very nice. if you are still there, why not try one zooming in on a section of the city? Link to comment
jerrynmnk 0 Posted August 15, 2007 Thanks Leah, thanks Dave. Dave, I wish I was still there...What a place. Thanks for the suggestion. I actually tried, but this was the only shot of many that was anywhere close to acceptable focus. Jerry Link to comment
jerrynmnk 0 Posted August 15, 2007 I really wish that the raters using 3s and 4s would leave critiques to explain their low scores. Just randomly leaving low (or high) ratings doesn't add anything to the integrity of this site. Link to comment
adaspin 0 Posted August 15, 2007 Jerry:Here are my thoughts: 1) The subject for this photo ( Monte carlo at night )is spectacular, and a very good choice. 2) Your photo has too much dark areaat the top and bottom. There are 3 ways to control this A) adjust the exposureB)Come in closer on the city portion C) Take the photo during twilight insteadof during full darkness. My personal choice would be to take this same shot at twilight just after sunset, while the sky is a dark blue, and the water still has a little color. You still get the drammatic lights of the city, but the area above and below the city is not lost to darkness; and overall, it would be a more colorfull and more drammatic image. If you have a chance, check out my portfolioI have many twilight and night shots...let me know what you think...Andrew Daspin Link to comment
jerrynmnk 0 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi Andrew, Thanks for your comments and critique. I do agree with your suggestion about shooting at twilight, however I was on a cruise and I had to run back to the ship before leaving port to get this shot. I wish I was able to shoot this with better light. I'll have to play around a bit is PS to see if I can lighten up the sky a bit. Thanks for the suggestions, that is what I look for from this site. By the way, I looked at your portfolio...very nice. We must live near each other as I recognized the AC & NY shots immediately. Regards, Jerry Link to comment
davemoss 0 Posted August 15, 2007 don't get too bummed, they are going to happen. i guess people like the ability to hide behind something. what you'd be better off doing is just posting for critique only. then people who would care enough will be able to tell you what you need to hear anyway. this site has some strange rules and policies, but i try to focus on the photography itself, and let the annoyances go. jerrynmnk 0 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi Dave, Thanks for the support. I guess you are correct...if I dont want to get bummed I should just post for critique only. Good suggestion. Jerry Link to comment
