So I'm in the middle of reading a book about a character who is researching thistles, and like magic, I find this photograph. Thank you! Now I have a clear image in my mind... It's quite beautiful,....

Thank you very much. I'm glad the picture helped you. Now I'm dying to know what book you are reading. I love to read too. :)

Actually it's a short story, but well worth the read. It's called "Three Days and a Child," written by A. B. Yehoshua. Yehoshua's style is somewhat like that of a cross between Franz Kafka and S.Y. Agnon (if you are familiar with him --he won the Nobel Prize). You could find it in a collection of Israeli stories. I'm reading it in Hebrew (the language in which it was written), but somewhere around here I think I have it in English. I'll check around tomorrow for the title. The thistles are a bit tangential to the tale, but they're symbolic of one of the characters and part of the mood. I'll check in tomorrow. Here in suburban New Jersey, the closest thing I see to a thistle is a dust ball under my bed!

Thanks for letting me know about the book. If you find the title in English I would like to see if I can find it here. You know how dandelions are bright yellow- and when the color leaves, all you have left are the thin white seedpods that you see blowing away.... The thistle in this picture was the same except that the bloom is purple and they get very tall. Some are 4or 5 feet tall that I have seen. Especially in the mountains here in Colorado. :)

Will do. It's in a pile of books somewhere. I just took a peek at Amazon and found one of that title by him but even used it was $40.00. I'll find the anthology and you could get it in your library or on interlibrary loan. Thanks for the info on this thistle. You live in a beautiful part of the country.

I'm jealous - I've yet to capture one of these and get such good focus - they never stay still for me!! This is beautiful!
