Interesting sky, and nice composition. My initial thought is that the image is a bit flat. An adjustment in levels in which the dark slider is moved to where the histogram curve begins helps, I believe, by increasing the contrast and making the image a bit darker (and saturating the colors at the same time). Just a thought from an arm-chair photographer.

Stephen--I don't doubt your assessment at all but it's a tad bit "greek to me." :) If you get a spare minute and don't mind, please tweak this shot to how you think it would look best and repost it in this link--I respect your opinions and would be very interested to see what you have in mind. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your thoughts!

Tyler, here's the tweak.... it was very minor adjustment in "levels," but I think it gives some extra depth to the sand as well as the portions of the water and clouds that aren't lit up by the sun. I also sharpened just a bit. On the other hand, you (or others) might think it's too dark (I could lighten it, but I wanted to keep the tweak to just a single action).

Stephen--What a great suggestion! That makes a huge difference! Makes me wonder how much better my pictures could be if I knew the first thing about post processing! Thanks for the input, suggestion, and example. If I print this one I'll be sure to tweak the slider like you did.

Tyler, I think basic post-processing is a very important part of digital photography. I doubt that I've taken a single digital shot that didn't benefit (or require) some adjustments. I'm also amazed at how very minor tweaks can produce significant improvements. Some of the very best photographers on this site have that status, in part (and only in part), because of their post-processing skills.

Hi Tyler...

... Stephen's constructive words are well worth taking on board. He's done the same for me and I believe my work moved forward thanks to him. Your work is fundamentally fine... help from people like Stephen will take you into a new world!

Enjoy your photography!

Pete
