portraits before i start to photograph others i decided to photograph myself to see if i'm ready

I think this is a great beginning. You've handled the lighting really well and, even though you've cut off a lot of the face you've managed to capture much pensive and thoughtful expression. Two things I notice that you might consider: perhaps trying to catch a little more light in the eye, the total blackness there would feel better with some depth and light variation in the iris. Also, it seems a llittle oversharpened in places. On the whole, it's a very strong image.

i'm glad you took the time to help me out a bit. yeah this is new for me portraits. i have to do some more study on lighting my subjects thanks.
