Beautiful In My Eyes

One of my first digital shots. A neophyte photographer and a doubly neophyte daddy. Gabi had been home with us for about three months at this point, and we were discovering how different life had become. I sat Gabi in front of this mirror, and she spent quite some time looking at herself and tracing her own reflection with her hands.

The colors in this shot are great. They give the image a retro feel. But, it is the girl's rapture that holds our attention. It must have been an emotional shot for you, Jeff, as you wonder what is going on through her mind. I often wonder how much it affects a child to go through not just an adoption, but a cross-country one, where she is literally uprooted from EVERYTHING she has known and, like a plant, transplanted into another fresh soil. It is true that they are, at that point, still malleable, but one wonders how much of ther selves have already been formed.

 

As far as the song goes, this appears a deeply, heart-felt tribute, as pure and unadulterated as the child herself.

Good idea, Jeff, of putting the baby infront of the mirror, her curiosity of her own reflection fully reflected in her tracing fingers & big round eyes. She sure is beautiful & adorable, in her parent's eyes, & in our eyes also.

Wow! Super interpretation of the song title and what a beautiful child she is. Beautiful in a physical sense but also a beautiful moment of self discovery as she realises she is the child in the reflection. Lighting and techs are excellent.

Reading the first comment, I think I get why she's looking in the mirror...vague and lost, in the movement. Colours have added much of warmth to an image, bearing such a sense, personality I may never find in my works--since it is Art of capturing the loved ones.

I think it's pretty amazing how children seem to be captivated by their own images. My 7 year old son is still taken by his. This is a very cute shot of a very adorable little girl.

Such a sweet picture. As a parent, I know there will never be anything more beautiful in one's own eyes! And, I have to agree with everybody else...Your Gabi is an exceptionally beautiful child! The reflection is cool, but it's even more awesome that you were able to capture her wonder... :) KW
