This guy did a front flip off that rail on his snowboard and landed on

the astroturf below...pretty brave considering it was only thin

astroturf covering the asphalt parking lot. Not very technical photo

because I'm lame and the lighting was bad...but I like his expression.

What do you think? Thanks!

suh-weet. Dont let anyway tell you there is anything wrong with this photo. Ever. Composition is great, something difficult to do with action, and the expression is priceless. Well done.

I can tell ya right now that I wish I had the whole board in the picture, but I wasn't that lucky. Thank you both for your comments. And while Dan thinks there is nothing wrong with this photo I'm sure he would agree that there are almost always things that can be done to improve a photo or put a different spin on it, so any ideas are more than welcome.

in sports... take what you can get. If the board were in the shot it would be too open. I care about as much about the board as i do about the tip of a prop or other protrusion from an airplane. What matter is important part of the subject. In this case the face.

However, if anyone feels different dont let my comments stop you from commenting.

Dan, thats true. Its not always important to have it all. In this case, where you typically wouldn't expect a guy to be snowboarding in a parking lot with no snow and no hill, I thought it would have been better if the board were made more clear and obvious. Just my thoughts though, so thank you for defending my picture against my own criticism. :o) Thank you again for your comments.

If you had a 1D series camera, you could have taken one of the 16 frames since he left the rail and chosen the one that best showed he was using a binding and not a skateboard. Alas, you, nor i, have that camera (yet), so i'd be very happy if i were you to have this picture. I'd probably end up with a centered, poorly composed, over exposed, OOF, long DOF, and a scratch on my lens and eye for being too close and getting whopped.... Ok, so maybe not that bad, but i'd be happy to have taken this.
