After Work Text

petemillis

This was taken early the other evening - have realised the colours of the board work well in mono. Sun is behind boarding, illumination provided by sun reflection in windows of building on my side of street.

Would appreciate any comments on this. How does it work as a mono

image from point of view of tones? I know perhaps the subject matter

might be a bit boring, but I'm still learning after all these years.

Any help at all would be great. Cheers. Pete

The light on the background is great and would have been even better if a bit was on her. Good to have her walking into the art, so to speak, and I would have tried to get closer to include just those two elements. If your original is sharp enough, I would crop this above the curb and below the heavy white line to exclude both outside art pieces. Square it up first.

Carl, many thanks indeed for the helpful comments. I agree, a splash of light across the subject would have been nice - maybe a reflection off the mobile phone! This was my first attempt in years and years at trying to take this sort of picture and I was actually a bit nervous as there were a lot of people around!

I've followed your advice and cropped the image from top and bottom and it makes a massive improvement. I didn't rotate at all though as didn't want to lose the vertical verticals in favour of the horizontals (that are on a slight slope anyway as the pavement (sidewalk) goes downhill.

Thanks again.

Pete

Actually, I had suggested cropping out the art work on both right and left edges. That also solves the verticals problem, as well as restoring a more reasonable aspect ratio.

now why can't I attach the image? It's at the link I posted above and is also in my portfolio along with some other pictures I have taken today.

That's it.

Now we can have a better look at our subject . . . looking at her cell phone (or whatever it is) instead of the world around her. You could write reams about this one.

I'm not sure what it's like around where you are, but around these parts this particular "pose" is adopted 90% of the population!
