Ger this image is superb you have caught the action perfectly and just right for the theme. I'm not sure on the PP I don't like the colour effect you have used I would rather have seen it as was. well done Rich.

Richard,

I went with this option as i wanted to draw attention onto the bike..the DOF did not seem to be there and I wanted a raw look for the shattered theme.

Great Ger, interesting post process treatment, the darkness conveys the defeated feelings of the riders to me.

Normally, this wouldn't attract my attention... But knowing this is a Shattered moment for this dude makes this an excellent effort on your part... Nice darkroom work and camera work.

I can't believe you greased the track just for this shot!!!

First off...great capture! Second...EVERYONE needs to view this LARGER!!!! The post production work doesn't allow this to be seen correctly at this size. A MUCH better shot, viewed larger. I was so so on the work until I hit the larger tab. Very Cool! Worth waiting for. You can tell how fast this is happening, no one in the crowd has even reacted yet. Glad you used this one, Ger!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Anthony thank you very much indeed...I thought the faces were a bit too dark and then I thought sod it..they are not really important and yea it happened so fast there wasn't even any reactions on their faces and this was my my second frame..

I was going to post the 5 frame sequence in 1 shot and then I started messing with this and started to get some really cool effects going so I just stayed with it.

I'll post the full sequence over the next few days.

Personally, I love the Post Processing on this!

The darkness and rawness (is that a word?) of the moment really hits home with this processing.

I can't wait to see the full series of the crash.

BTW... I love the blacked out faces!

Ger, this was well worth the wait!!! Love the way it fits the theme, and love the post processing you've done here. Amazing talent to capture this the way you did!!!!!!!!

wow, I knew he was off. Somthing about him was wrong in his eyes. Didn't I say something earlier in in one of his pictures I wonder if this is the same race. HE IS MY FAVORITE RACER. I am now his fan. I hope he was ok!!

I too love how you caught this JUST PERFECT> The angle and the shoot just in the perfect timing with the flag guy (sorry that is what I am calling him) just about ready to wave the flag. I also love the fact that there is not a singe FEMALE in the stands. Where are the GIRLS? weird. And the way the motion is still going on is so cool.

I am also thrilled at your cropping as you did not crop off at the flag guy as the other man needs to be there to not overwhelm the picture with the white on the left.

Love the sign up top that says accommodation too. Love the treatment. Love everything. Hope #45 is ok. ~ micki

Darren and Steve thanks very much..

Micki..No. 45..Martin Finnegan..was fine you will see by the time I got off my last frame he was jumping back into the air. This was during practice on the Friday. He came through on the Sat with 2 3rd places in the 600cc and the 1000cc and won the grand final... Wait till you see him in Kells in 2 weeks flying through the air...

Just to give you guys an idea as to what shooting these bikes is like..have a look at this link from the race at the weekend. The photographer in the clip is the main man, the one we all aspire to be (ie. he makes good money out of it!!). My mate Keith send this on, he said he was in the exact same place during the day. Personally, I don't take as big risks..

Good God, Ger! That youtube vid was crazy...I'd be so scared, I'd end up falling over into the damn track. Yikes! I'll stick to stills and abstracts or sitting in the stands.

As for your shot, Anthony was right...the larger view is great! Can't wait to see the sequence...will you post them like a triptych (sp?)

As a former motorcycle racer this image makes me ill but as a photographer I think it is fantastic! I can't wait to see the multiple frame series.

Think it was only his pride...

Zack: He was right up after it so he was ok, just lost the back as he came up to the corner..

Great shot. Amazing timing and composition. I'd be interested in seeing the original as well. True, the larger version does your post-processing work more justice but I'm still not convinced that your post-processing work does the image justice. I'd think twice about saying faces in a crowd like this aren't that important! When you look past the noise and grain you've imposed, there are many great faces and expressions, real people entranced in what they are watching, even if they haven't yet realized what has happened. They each offer a perspective on this story. Capturing all those faces, even if dark, for me, makes it a richer photo. I'm not sure why you'd process expression and humanity out of a photo like this. In my opinion, you're starting with the best of both worlds here, a great sports/action photo AND a really good group portrait, each adding context and dimension to the other. I think post processing can be great in supporting or enhancing a photo (as you did in your self portrait on the stairs). And, although sometimes it works, I am less convinced that it is often effective when used to substitute or make up for something which seems to the photographer to be lacking.

BIG SMILE :)

AND, then did a search to find out what old Martin Finnegan looks like without a helmet on. Not that bad. HA!!

I'm glad to hear he wasn't hurt. They learn how to fall and wear the right stuff. I have scars all up and down my leg from falling on gravel as a kid.

I watched a guy get thrown about 40 odd feet about two months ago when he was hit on a bike and I am still a bit shaken up about it. SO, this is a good picture for me to get over it with.

Two months ago I would have had to say nice pic and moved on. The guy that went flying that I watched ended up having a major break in his leg and some other minor issues. The driver of the car that hit him was drunk. My husband Andrew has a folder of the wreck in his portfolio.

SO, keep posting these. Hope he keeps wearing RED. Like that red color! Blue doesn't fit him right! :)

Ger, Im sorry I missed this one. Very good capture and the limited color really works. This seems like an add for the leather riding suits. AWESOME job. Leanna:O)

My aplogies - I missed your shattered and went straight to Movie titles. Well it doesn't get any better than this as far as using the title to it's full advantage! Amazing capture! It is difficult for me to critique a style that I have no experience with whatsoever. I tried some stop action shots with some birds today and failed miserably. NOt only have you captured the stop action of the crash itself, you have captured the "moment" (you could use this for the next title!) The moment I speak of, is the moment that everybody remembers - the one moment of the crash when everything is seen in slow motion and every memory of the incident is replayed in slow motion. The high grain of the photo is perfect. It "imbeds" the gravel into our concious just as the gravel is imbedded into him. The faces in the crowd are all of shock. They have not yet reacted to the spill. Perfect timing Ger. Brilliant photo! (I might have done a bit of PS work on the sign in the background and changed the sign to 4 "LUCK" hehehe)

Cheers Jan...Nearly killed twice today, just back from a race. Stood in the same spot twice and each time there was a crash and I had to run, didn't hang around for picts...for the moment title (the moment I lost my legs or life or camera..)
