Grapevine Tendril

seven

Taken in Autumn; the tendril behind the leaf is already dried, having served its purpose. Earlier I had tried to take this photo with green - plumper - tendrils; it didn't work (was somehow less elegant.) I'd appreciate your feedback.

Hi, Seven. Welcome back! This one is in your exquisite style - simple, and beautiful, and original. Blago

Great. The end of the shadow referring to a cork-screw is the hope of a good wine. The 2 diagonals joining the 2 right corners. Seems simple picture, it is not, it is perfect.

Great abstract Seven, I like the combination of delicate leaf texture and the additional dimension created by the shadow of the tendril.

Id give it top marks for creativity. This is a two-for-one type image. Both the tendril image and dried leaf would make very pleasing stand-alone shots. A definite 10 for originality!

Great image. I've taken some shots of dried grape tendrils and separate shots of close ups of leaves - you've managed to combine them both. Wonderfully creative.

Seven, I tried something similar recently, but it didn't work out. Possibly due to the poor macro capabilities of my (now outdated) Sony digital...

Anyhow, just wanted to complement you on the incredible detail in the grapevine leaf, I have looked at the large view and thought that the intense black silhouette with all the swirls could be used as your signature...

Where ever I go at PN, you are there!

The leaf alone would be a great shot, but like this... Everything I wanted to say has been said already by other people. Besides, I´m speechless!

Excellent composition. I tried to find something to critique and failed. Every tiny detail has been well thought out and handled. From the veins of the leaf where they intersect the edge of the image, to how and where the tendril's shadow is positioned in relation to the framing and the veins of the leaf. Even the lighting and exposure are perfect for the composition.

A 7/7 wihtout a doubt.

Outstanding. I really enjoy the symmetry of the leaf and the completely abstract shadow of the trndril to counterpoint. The coloring of the leaf is a nice touch; it seems you got there at just the right time -- not quite alive, not yet dried out.

Pleasing composition and interesting geometries. This is one of my favourites out of your portfolio!

Keep up the good work.

Idea of bringing a tendril 'corkscrew-designed' shadow on that grape leave, texture of leave and overall composition is excellent.

I guess you already know how fantastic this image is, so you don't really need to hear it from a nobody amateur. Regardless, it is great.

Thank you Shawn. I do like the simplicity, but am quite surprised to find that it isn't to everyone's taste. I recall entering this in a competition (Silhouette theme I think) some years ago and finding that it didn't even make the shortlist......of about 50 images! That really raised some questions while denting some pride.

So it's great to hear from you - no one's commented for ages.

Thanks so much. Cheers.
