dangoldman 0 Posted July 12, 2007 Im tempted to add more contrast to this, but perhaps those with darkerdisplays it may look ok as is? Critique welcome. Link to comment
axelg 3 Posted July 12, 2007 The contrast is fine for me. Nice range of tones. Best regards, Axel G. Link to comment
ricardogirao 0 Posted July 12, 2007 This one has a special meaning to me. The only time I've been in New York, I stayed at the Wellington for one week. Nice hotel, not so expensive. For me, this image turns immediately on my memories of that trip. Regarding the image itself, I think it's a nice building capture and propoerly contrasted... Maybe the neons and the stuff at the bottom are a bit distracting, so I would try to crop them out just to see how it works. Regards, ricardo Link to comment
dangoldman 0 Posted July 19, 2007 Ricardio, i've been thinking about your critique and was curious to know how you felt about how the photo goes into a pretty deep shadow where the signs on, which are i like; going from nearly blown highlights at the top to shadow beneath. I could always clone them though, i guess. Curious to know your thoughts about that. Link to comment
darinheinz 0 Posted November 15, 2008 Hi Dan! When I first saw the thumbnail for this one, I thought it might have been done with a view camera. Surprised to see in the full-size version that it was not, I was already, at that early stage, drawn into the place and time. The exaggerated converging lines of the hotel provide a feeling of immensity that would have been lost had they been "corrected" to be rendered as rectilinear. You have defined the regions in this image well, those being the hotel, the flanking buildings, the shadow, and the sky. Each region has its own individual characteristics, and fits against one another like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. I find this image to be expertly done. Exposure, focus, contrast are all right on the money. Composition couldn't be better. Outstanding work, Dan. Darin Link to comment
dangoldman 0 Posted November 30, 2008 Thanks Darin. This is by far one of my favorite images i've ever taken; and when people ask me why i shoot film, this is where i take them. Strangely though, i havent gotten a good wetroom print of this... go figure. Link to comment
