steviewander 0 Posted June 11, 2002 The Owens valley is one of my favorite spots in the world. This is a beautifully "layered" photo with it's foreground, trees, purple mountains and a great sky! I only wish the horizon was straight...it may be naturally tilted, but it makes the photo look a little of kilter. Nice work. (PS what was Galen like to be with?) Link to comment
PurpWaltz 3 Posted June 11, 2002 Steven - thanks for the comments. I use a bubble level, and usually am quite diligent about ensuring a straight horizon, but this picture leaves me in doubt about whether the horizon just appears tilted, or whether I screwed up. Galen Rowell is an amazing guy - and for all his accomplishments he is also very down to earth and humble. I learnt more in the three days with him than I did in any other three days in my life. :) Link to comment
sphoto 0 Posted June 13, 2002 maybe the earth was at incline? that way the bubble would be level, but the land would be tilted. Link to comment
fotokrelles 0 Posted July 5, 2002 Looks to me that tilt is rather optical trick of light (note that foreground is in the shade of cloud while background is lit by direct sunlight) than a fault of aligning camera to horizon. Great shot! Link to comment
PurpWaltz 3 Posted October 16, 2002 Owens Valley, near Bishop, CA. Taken during a workshop with Galen Rowell in May 2002. Critique appreciated. Thanks. Link to comment
