Love the mustang shot, one of my favoite aircraft...6/5 I particularly like the way you framed it, space in front....But the one that brought back memories is the Piper Super Cub... I got my first 6 hours flight time in that airplane!

to my eye, on this monitor, it looks a little under exposed. I also prefer to have atleast some prop blue, via a slower shutter speed. Airplane photography can be tricky to get a proper exposure sometimes, since the meter will go off the clouds sometimes.

Exposure seems allright to me, however I can't help agreeing with the above about getting some prop blur. It would just add the to the speed of the scene. Otherwise it's a nice shot, well done.

Thanks for your comment. I agree prop blur woud have improved the shot. I basically felt I had to choose between a sharp picture or a shaky picuture. It's shot at 1/500 using a 70-300 at 300. Any advice on how to choose among evals is most welcome.

Its easier when he's got her powered up, but generally you can get away with 1/250 or 1/500 and still get a decently sharp picture. If you can, 1/125 is best i think, for a non IS lens and not much experience with planes (just take LOTS of pictures, thats the ticket. Pick the sharpest one.)

Thanks for the advice. This was my first attempt to shoot planes. I have already decided to invest in a IS (VR) capable lens and a monopod. That should help me to reduce required shutter speed.

Well... if you have that... Go to 1/60 and get a full circle prop blur! Seriously, go to like 1/90 and get as much prop blur as possible. Just take a few 'safety' shots as well at 1/250 or 125. Or even 1/500. I still say this is a little too dark though. The meters do tend to get fooled by the sky. 1 stop up seems to work decently, if the sky is completely gray, you may need more.
