root 0 Posted July 5, 2007 DC United hosted the Chicago Fire at RFK stadium this past June 16. Asa retired player and coach, I was interested in the play on the field, but was even more interested in the fans. Of the 200 images captured, maybe thirty or so will be shown in a photo essay format, so pleaseconsider each image as part of the series. Link to comment
dennisdixson 0 Posted July 9, 2007 Well this one can certainly stand on its own merits. The flags always remind me of impressionist paintings and the fact that we are indeed looking at a fleeting moment in time. I am taken with the mostly sombre expressions captured in this instant. This is serious stuff. I really admire the way this frame is organized and the fact that everything directs our attention back to the center of the image. These type of shots can often lack any sort or "order" for lack of a better word. Though I am not much of a sports fan, I would give this photograph very high marks for the way it captures the essence of the group experience. Most people around here and elsewhere seem to rate photography based on personal preferences but no one can deny that this is just plain good. Link to comment
root 0 Posted July 9, 2007 It was indeed difficult to get a shot from a dozen or so from this position that didn't cut off crucial body parts. The flags were the main attraction in terms of balancing them visually with the crowd, but the initial attraction was the clarity of the stadium lights through the flag material. Maybe it's more obvious in the color versions. Link to comment
