Study of curves, motion and colors (Grand Prize winner of PCPhoto 2008 Competition)

Excellent use of flattening and extensive time.

This really is a study of the elements that mention at the name! At first my eyes detached to the motion blurred red figures, then they were twistered towards the center of the image - by the spiraling staircase and finally they returned through the superb scale of different shades of gray, only to end up to the fine yellow lines at the lower right corner. WOW! Mind bogglingly fine visual journey!

how did you hold the tripod?

Tripod was not permitted. The camera was hand-held against the hand rail to permit for long exposure.
