jerrymat 5 Posted June 25, 2007 Except for the people, the symmetry is that which I term formal symmetry. Every element in the left matches that of the right. When I taught composition in photography I said that it was to be reserved for images of formal importance: the nations or states capitol bldg., a formal speech, a wedding or a funeral. Here, with the people just defeating the formality by their placement, they seem to be defying the universe, it has a somber mood, enhanced by the dark sky - I guess it leaves me feeling that something momentous is about to happen - maybe the arrival of a flying saucer with aliens - or the second coming. If this were the opening scene in a movie I would be breathless waiting to see what would happen. If the movie lapsed into fun and frivolity I would think I was cheated. Link to comment
nichroe 0 Posted June 25, 2007 Welcome to PN. Nicole, Only a circle is absolutely symmetrical in all angles. This picture is only semi-symmetrical in one vertical angle, and because it is not, absolutely, it`s exciting, provoking,,,in fact not two things are alike, here, or anywhere,,, great picture you have made. jcpopper 0 Posted September 19, 2007 A fine, wonderfully composed, and intriguing image. Worth looking at for a long time. Everyone should view it "larger." Regards... Link to comment
