Shallow Cover

The wind tapped me on the shoulder. When I turned around, this is what I saw. I can't imagine how the camera settings were anywhere near correct, I just picked it up and shot it without blinking.

This was a chance encounter that lasted about 3 seconds of my life.

But I'll never forget the way I felt. Frightened. Fascinated. Like I

shouldn't be there.

I am just starting to collect my photos into "categories." But I'm

having a hard time defining them. I only have my initial 5 photos up

right now. I would like to make use of this community for input on how

to utilize my in-the-moment reflexes to create meaningful imagery. I

put this photo in the Documentary category because there was no setup

or intended purpose other than to save that nearly spiritual moment of

wonder for myself. Is there a better way to think of these kinds of

shots in photographic terms?

I'm also interested in knowing, without any background, how this photo

makes a viewer feel. If it was hanging in a gallery, would you stop?

I would definitely stop to take a closer look at this capture, which, in my opinion, is a very moving and unique one. The background is a little bit too dark for my eyes, but I might be wrong. Other than that, it surely goes in the documentary category, and I think it's a great shot. How does it make me feel? Secluded, desperate, overwhelmed with sorrow, something terrible had happened... Very good composition and eye! Regards, Mihai.

would definitely stop!

I too first thought the bkgd/vignetting was too dark, but I must admit that it makes you focus on the woman very effectively. I do find it a bit flat contrast wise, but it's somewhat irrelevant for this kind of shot...

As for the feeling it conveys...not too sure, is she crying, desperate? just taking a break? praying?...it certainly feels that she is in a place where she doesn't want to be disturbed.

All in all a very interesting shot.

considering the composition,i think the dark background plays into the mood of the photo. documentry i don,t see it that way;maybe place it under the catagory of people. this is a very good photo, one to be proud of.

I looked at all your work, and many others today, and this IS where I stopped. Very fine capture, and yes it is wonderful art, even more than documentary for me. regards, mmwhite.

Holly, put this image in the "Fine Art" category!

I'll definitely stop before this when I see it on gallery/museum wall. Very powerful image!
