Excellent shot Adam. I like the textures and shapes of the stones and the sand/water interface. Superb lighting and exposure (did you use a graduated filter?)

Thanks for your comments all. Yes, Michel I used an ND grad filter. I usually always do.

Here is a question - how come the low voters always vote anonomously? Isnt it about time Photo.net took this anonomous thing away - doesnt it just encourage people to mark down a picture to spoil its ratings?

Lovely job Adam, as usual. I really love the soft light. These orbs are an absolutely fascinating subject to shoot! If I have one criticism, a very minor one at that, is that I wish the boulder on the LHS had a bit more space on its left.

As far as the voting goes, although I greatly dislike low anonymous ratings, they are there for a good reason: people who give low ratings can be afraid of those ratings backfiring on them...that way it avoids too many wars :-). ratings with names have their shortcomings as well, as there is a lot of mutual patting on the back...This is the reason I stopped rating. I would rather leave a comment than a rate... (btw, a quick search on the forums will show you how much debate is going on about this same topic).

Cheers,

Younes

Thanks Younes for your comment.

I completely agree with you about the space on the left. Unfortunately I had to do it exactly this way because there is another (broken) boulder just off the frame. To include it would have messed up the composition so I shot as close to the edge of this boulder as possible.

Thanks,

Adam.

Serenity at its best! Amazingly beautiful colours, overall sharpness and detail complimented with the perfect exposure and composition. A truly magnificent image.

Hi Adam,

I have to agree with J Perez, - this is the best photo of the Moeraki boulders i have seen too. in fact it inspires me to go and visit them next time i'm back in NZ (i've often found them uninspiring in the past - grey light and just generally uninteresting). I particularily love the blue tones, the softness of the retreating tide against the hard textures of the stones. just brilliant work as per usual!

cheers,

Ben

I really like this shot, and the composition. I completely agree about the anonymous raters. Totally unconstructive. But then again, there are plenty of other distortions in the rating system. Out of interest, how do people rate anonymously, because I can't see an option to do so which seems odd? Has this been disabled for recent new users? Michael.
