carsten_ranke 0 Posted June 20, 2007 Very nice subject matter, I like the perspective and many interesting lines and forms to be discovered. As in the rainbow shot, I find the sky/ground layer transition to be too easily visible, at least for me. Look @the building RHS. Did you use a tone mask ? Link to comment
fhmillard 0 Posted June 21, 2007 Yes, I used several tone masks. This one has been beaten up by PatM, Alberto Conde and Aaron Falkenburg on the PC site for the halo on the buildings' right side. The halo is in the raw file too. But selecting the sky as a layer mask and cloning "extra" sky seems to work. I need to post it here. The transition in the Rainbow is due to sunlight under the clouds. Link to comment
fhmillard 0 Posted June 22, 2007 Here is a new edition. Simple adjustments: sky selected; new "sky" channel layer mask; slight curve adjustment to sky; neutral gray gradient applied to sky. Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted November 22, 2007 This is the kind of photography I want to learn to do. I will continue to study your work. I want to be THIS good someday. Link to comment
fhmillard 0 Posted November 22, 2007 Thank you Liz. This is an example of post processing overkill, although I like the results (with the exception of the nasty fringe on tall building at right and the slight upward tilt seen at the bottom center). This was taken through a window, without a polarizer, so there were reflections to remove without affecting other lighting. Taken at 17mm, lens distortion "tilted" walls of foreground building, which was corrected with Photoshop's Lens Distortion filter. There are several (maybe too many) layer masks and adjustment layers used to affect overall lighting and selective tonal adjustments. Each mask and adjustment layer has some "painting", using the PS brush tool at various opacities, to produce the overall effect -- a lot of work. Link to comment
