kurt2006 0 Posted June 7, 2007 I am prone to vertical images, not sure why. In this case, the distribution of the vertical cliff and the beautiful stream flowing through in the lower third of the image provide a nice balance in shape and color. The "landscape" version emphasizes the stream while this version emphasizes the opening in the cliff. I think the cliff is more important in this composition. Cheers. Link to comment
younes 0 Posted June 7, 2007 I too prefer the vertical. I think it gives a better idea of the space surrounding the boulder, but it also takes advantage of the superb light hitting the cave. Great exposure control. Lovely shot. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted June 7, 2007 I vote a strong vertical. Kurt expressed it well: let your primary interest dictate the format. In a vertical slot canyon that takes in a lot of area, that's probably going to be vertical most of the time. Link to comment
forrest_andrew 0 Posted June 9, 2007 impressive composition. great depth. it could be my monitor, but i get a feel of a bit too much blue?? Link to comment
stp 6 Posted June 10, 2007 I think Andrew is right....the small rocks on the bank have a definite blue cast to them. Reduce the blue, and I think the red rock walls will stand out even more. Link to comment
anish 0 Posted June 11, 2007 thanks for the comments. i agree there is quite a bit of blue. i was using a polarizer all day, and it was needed, as the clear sky sent a lot of blue down into the canyon to go along with the warm tones of the walls. in this case, the polarizer was set to max, however, it was late afternoon, and the position of the sun relative to the camera did not allow me to remove all of the blue. i don't mind the effect too much, though.
