jgalyon 0 Posted May 6, 2007 Just an opinion...but this reminds me of lots of shots I've taken that when you're there, in the moment...you believe you have something, but when you see the print, it's just not there. I'm not interested in rating it...I'm more curious to ask...what rating would you give it? Best regards, john Link to comment
davenwar 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Well, that's a tough question. I don't usually rate photos, except when I think they're very good or bad. And even then I don't feel comfortable. But I don't want to elude the question. I think I'll rate it with a double 5. Of course, the more I think about it and see the photo itself, the lower the rating goes... And finally, about the photo itself: it's turned out like I thought it would, so in my case I wasn't disappointed. I saw the curve, the line of trees and the contrast between the little beach and the dark waters, and that's what I captured, I think. Maybe it's not very good, but I like it. And, well, that doesn't mean I won't try to take better photos, of course! Link to comment
pepmir 0 Posted May 8, 2007 Esta David me gustaba mas en blanco y negro y eso que es a veces dificil sacar todo el partido a un paisaje monocromo. Saludos. Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted May 9, 2007 just to add...that my comments were of course, only my perspective... i often find photos of my own that i like, am very satisfied with...and then get totally different reactions from others. only emotionless automatrons can say that neg. reaction doesn't give us a little knife to the gut feeling. i just do as you did w/ this one. if i like my photo regardless...i like it, and like you ...remain open to learning from the painful comments. best regards! john Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted May 9, 2007 you mentioned that "the more I think about it...." my main intent was to make you think...whatever the conclusion of your thought might be. constant examination/re-examination leads to being better photographers. Link to comment
davenwar 0 Posted May 10, 2007 You're quite right, John, and I appreaciate all the comments in my photos. Especially the thoughful ones, wether they are negative towards my photos or not. So, thank you very much, John :DMmm... and now maybe it's time to ask you: what made you post that comment on this photo in particular? And why it doesn't work for you (if you know why, of course)? jgalyon 0 Posted May 12, 2007 funny you ask David... I think...yes, I think, that my decision was perpetuated by the fact that I had rated a photo and the young man who created the shot pretty well went ballistic on me...so i had to make, for lack of a better word, a negative comment on another shot to see what the reaction would be. But hear me out...the photo really didn't "work for me", but my comments were with the right intent on both your shot and his. I'm as guilty as anyone of only making positive comments. Ya see a shot that you love...it's so easy to give it a good rating, a nice comment, and know that you've brightened someone's photographic day a bit. Who doesn't love praise! :) But I think we're all better served to critique the shots that affect us in the opposite direction. I don't like saying "negative" comments...because, what's negative about commenting in a way that might prove helpful? Specifically, why doesn't this one work....I REALLY can't say. Most of the time I can...but, not this time! hope we continue to talk... Link to comment
