Rocamadour (Lot)

... a medieval pilgrimage spot dedicated to the Virgin Mary, literally built up the side of the cliff. Site of a wonderful Vierge Noire (Black Madonna) and a place I have known for almost 45 years. There are two exceptional views where you suddenly see the town; this one, coming from the ENE, I believe, and the second, from below, coming from the southwest. You can also approach by the "causse", the plateau above where the citadel is, which is flat, but you don't see anything except the citidel and the abbey. You miss the dramatic drop of the city itself. I have photographed this exact shot for 30 years, but last year, at lunch at the overlook, happened to get this shot, which is probably the best I ever managed. Thanks for the nice words, Richard. Your words about the view and place is fantastic as with the view itself. Perfect shot. I dont know why many people say (especially in India) Switzerland is the best place for tourism in Eurpoe, but I feel it is France, which is more beautiful than any other countries in Europe (difference in openion).
