Eagle Rock, CA; in-camera composite

The D200 was used for a RAW image overlay composite of 2 files shot in

afternoon light, with 18-200 VR lens.

Very interesting effect. How much control did you have in making this composite digitally? Or was it luck that composition is so pleasing and the balance in tones is just right?

I had quite a bit of control in-camera with the D2X and tried to previsualize this effect as much as possible to help choose where to position the camera.
