A grad filter WILL not work when the subject is like this. The top of the rope is to dark because of the grad. You should maybe have used a polariser to try to get the sky darker

What are you trying to show us in this photo...? The boat or the rope and post? I feel that the rope and post are too domineering and are swamping the interesting boat. Plust using the grad filter was a mistake...
