You did much better than my attempt, which is not worth posting. Yours could be brighter....

This is really pretty good, especially on "larger." I hope that you are out there tonight. The phase is just about perfect and will be for another day or two.

So I left you this long paragraph about tripods, remote release, exposure, lenses, etc. THEN I looked at your first two attempts. So I came back to edit my comments... You pretty much got what I got trying to photo the moon. Besides something more than a 200mm (not sure what you're using), I think we reach the limits of our equipment at some point. What I do like is that you have not tried to overcrop or oversharpen.

John, you did a fine job because you did not overexpose anything. Perhaps the other comments feel that there should be more exposure for the unlit face of the moon. If your critique request is about that, you can try blending this with an overexposed frame to get some earthshine on the unlit part, but this is great as it is. Rick Lindh has a recent post with the moon exposed for the earthshine. Mike K. also: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5083389 I am sure they can offer more details, but it really is difficult to do this, and you did a fine job. Cheers.

Thank you for all of your responses. This was shot in Oklahoma on April 20, 2007 at 300mm f/9.5 1/60ss iso 100(I absolutely hate noise). I was not trying for earth glow as I had never heard of earth glow. I will be trying for earth glow over the next couple of days. So keep an eye for that picture(if I succeed). Sorry about sounding stupid on this I have only been shooting for a year and I still exploring the many wonderful facets of Photography. I cropped this rather large amount, but I wanted to leave the original sharpness there. That is all the post processing work I have done.
