I think I like the detail over the subject's left shoulder in that it

adds some environmental interest to a fairly tight portrait.

Thoughts?

I like the pic, style and lighting on the model's face. However I find the frame rather annoying - mostly weak pics use the crutch of 'artisitic' frames. This pic will stand on its own.

I like this candid portrait very much. It is beautifully lit and the detail in the back ground does add to the context. I particularly like the hand in the foreground indicating an interaction with someone out of shot and adding to the candid feel. The frame you have used is fine although, as Aditya suggests, not necessary. (7/6)

I print full frame not because of some deep artistic motivation but because it's the only convenient way to get a wide white border on my prints with the easels they have where I do my printing. Frankly, sharp 1/4" white borders or full-bleed printing are both irritating to me because I don't want to get fingerprints on the image area when I'm picking up a print. In any case, surely even if you view the frame as an affectation it doesn't detract from an image that would otherwise be strong.

I don't get it. Are you saying this is just printed "full frame" and you didn't do anything weird to get that funky border? A "full frame" print will usually either simply be uncropped, or will show that black negative edge around it...what did you do here? Anyway, I do like the lighting on the subject, but I would burn down that background light a bit...I don't know what to look at.

... although someone else who uses the darkroom where I work may have filed the edges of the negative holder for me without my knowledge!
