romi_sharpe 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Lovely photo. No critique. Only the desire for an embellished expression. Perhaps one that is symbolic. It is, after all, a predator none too distantly related to the eagle. Link to comment
petewelsh 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Thank you for your comments Sarah Romi and Jose and for the time taken out to give them... :) And Romi I don't think it could be more closely related to an Eagle.. it is one .. However, I see your point and will endevour to do what you suggest.. Take care ~Peter~ Link to comment
petewelsh 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Thankyou for rating my picture, please educate me as to what you expect to see in a picture like this by leaving a critique. I understand it is not high in the originality stakes but where does the problem lie with the aesthetics help me learn.. thankyou.. Link to comment
alkhufu 0 Posted April 18, 2007 Technically, it's a well-taken photo. It just doesn't offer much to look at. There is no expression. No direct eye contact. Nothing but a face in profile. Despite being a fan of raptors, I judge the photo on its merits. If I saw a person in this composition - in profile as such - I would think nothing of it. Most photographers, when presented with an opportunity to photograph a captive or tame animal in close proximity, would take the same shot in the same way, just because they can. Often, handled raptors are only shown from the shoulders up to omit any sense of captivity such as tethers and perches. Wild animals are best presented with wild ambience. It's not a bad picture, just average - hence the average rating. Link to comment
petewelsh 0 Posted April 19, 2007 True and now you have said that I see what you are saying and I to an extent agree.. I can learn from that and know what to look for next time. One question I would like to ask is that although the bird has no eye contact etc does the actual technical side of the photograph not count for any thing e.g. DOF, sharpness, lighting etc or do you mainly judge/rate the appearance/subject of the picture only? (a question not an attack on you). I think I tend to judge a photo more by the technical side of things not by only the subject although I do understand the subject/composition is pretty important everyone has their own favourite type of picture and also ones they do not like. Personally I do not like nor understand fully black and white photography therefore rarely rate/comment on them unless for some strange reason it jumps out at me.. I think I have rated and commented on about 4 black and white pictures because of this. Thankyou again for your time and comment Alfred. Your rating on its own would not help me to learn anything and that is the reason I am here :) Regards ~Peter~ Link to comment
