Sunrise on Deerfield Beach

viorel_dragan

I didn't have the flash with me, so I've got no detail in the palm tree. I'm wondering if the shape of the tree is enough to make the photo.

This intended to be a profile shot. You do not want any detail in the tree. Nice shot, well composed, well exposed. Excellent work.

See the folder by Douglas Coffey entitled "best of ...sorta" He has a photo that is very similar but that has two trees.

This seems to be default on Digital cameras due to the layout of the sensor grid. I had it on my Minolta Dimage 7. I haven't noticed it on my E-10 but I also haven't shot any bright, point light sources either. It would be really interesting to see what happen with the new Foveon chip.

Thank you for comments and nice words.

About the digital sensor: I was reading the other day about it's physics and I wasn't so surprised to find out that the color of one pixel in the final image is obtain by interpolating the information of several adiacent cells from the sensor. So the digital processing takes place right at the moment you take the picture. I don't know if the interpolation losses information, but I would imagine so. There is a new chip coming out (Foveon?) that will have 3 layers of photo cells, and no interpolation will be neccessary.

I agree. The silhouetted tree is completely appropriate here. Detail isn't always necessary or desirable. If this were my picture and I had detail of the tree in the negative, I'd probably print it silhouetted anyway.
