javapro101 0 Posted April 10, 2007 The burst of water, i guess thats what it is, adds a good dimension. Good timing. Link to comment
younes 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Thanks Amol and Jimmy! Appreciated. Amol, that's actually a chunk of ice, that is pushed to the shore by the current. Link to comment
wayne_willis2 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Nice sense of movement captured, great colour and use of the ice Link to comment
firegal 0 Posted April 10, 2007 I love the blending of the colors; it is very peaceful to look at; and the ice is eyecatching but not distracting.Beautiful! Link to comment
younes 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Thanks Wayne, Susan and Willy, for your kind comments. Link to comment
marcloiselle 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Man,i think that this one is your best one.Nice shot.Is this in Ottawa? Very well done Younes...Marc Link to comment
younes 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Merci Marc! Venant de toi, c'est tout un compliment! Oui c'est a Ottawa, en fait c'est a 5 min de marche de chez moi...comme quoi on n'a pas toujours besoin d'aller loin :-). Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 10, 2007 You and Marc Loiselle must be shooting near the same location. Superb capture Younes. The long exposure really gives the water a thick smooth texture. Lots of dark drama in the sky contrasted well with the bright cluster of ice. Well done. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted April 10, 2007 Great shot. I saw one of your comments that you were planning to come to Montreal to get some ice shots under pont jacques cartier. Hope you made it. Link to comment
younes 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Thanks Tony. Unfortunately I didn't make it there but went to the Rene Levesque Park instead (which was really just as good :-D). Are you in the Mtl area? Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted April 11, 2007 Another great photograph uniquely accomplished....Tell me about the lighting on this one... Link to comment
younes 0 Posted April 11, 2007 Thanks Joao and Dennis. Well Dennis, again, there really is no secret...this was taken about 5-10 min after sunset, with a 4 stop (I think) cokin ND grad (p121)...that's about it. These ice cubes are very light and mostly melted. They are very crystal like and transparent so they really seem to radiate light... sorry to disappoint :-D. Actually if you wanna have a good idea about the lighting conditions. check this shot without the ice. These are shot at almost the same conditions (4 vs 6s exposures). Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted April 11, 2007 Just blows me away every time I ask you;)Amazing what the eye can't see sometimes when it comes to color and light... Link to comment
younes 0 Posted April 11, 2007 Will, I must have missed your comment! Thanks for the comment (I really admire Marc's work and am flattered to be cited in the same sentence :-)). Marc is located about a 8hr-drive away from where I live! We just happen to be in the land of the eternal cold (or so it seems): Canada. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 11, 2007 It might be cold but it looks like a photographer's paradise. A small price to pay to capture awesome images like this. Again, superb results. Link to comment
brian_goodman 0 Posted April 12, 2007 Excellent Younes. Love the drama and the light. Regards, Brian Link to comment
michael anderson 0 Posted August 7, 2007 Younes, This is spectacular and incredibly unique. Very mesmerizing and once again, a great example of your incredible eye for the subtle beauty around us. Link to comment
anhaga 0 Posted August 4, 2008 Superb - fantastic colour and flow to the water - gives it more depth than the standard sunset water scene, and the blues of the ice really ick out of their surrounding darkness - has a wonderful, if dark, vividness to it. Looks like a little drop-off to the right and curving round the ice - would that have been worth using a little more, so sliding to the photographers right a foot or so, placing the ice on the left of the frame and the little water-lines of the drop-off a little more in prominence? Another blinder though, truly an excellent shot. J Link to comment
