First of all, Jeff, thanks for the nice comment on my portfolio. There are so many good photographers on PN it's really hard to get around to see them all . I do my best, though. This one is just an incredible picture. You haven't added anything in way of explanation and maybe that's all to the good since it allows our lazy minds to try to make sense out of this beautiful and thoroughly mystical landscape.

Comments/critiques welcome. This shot was taken in Utah. My wife

and I silently walked this several times, contemplating parenthood--

whether and how . . There was a true sense of walking in circles,

which eventually ended in a clear path toward adoption. The memory

of walking this labyrinth in the middle of nowhere is life-defining.

Of course, emotional attachment to a photo often interferes with

critical analysis. So, here's the photo and back-story.

Sometimes one needs to know the past in order to get the whole "picture". No pun intended. Great symmetry and composition. Bravo.

Even without the story, this is a fantastic image. WIth the story, it is glorious.

Thanks for fixing up my one legged birds. I am getting brave, so I will start trying the layers. Once you get the hang, it seems so easy to do, but until then, it can be overwhelming.

Very nice perspective on this, Jeff. The rings lead you into and draw you through the scene. I lived in Utah for four years, but did not run across this place. Where is it? Thanks for the comment on my photo, by the way.

Jeff it's a beautiful and touching story and a place that is a perfect setting for such contemplation.

Nice composition, great shot with nice colors and warm lighting. I wonder if it would have worked in a panorama, where you include the entire rings.

all major life decisions i feel like i need a couple of laps around this circle of contemplation. what a strong composition. i like that it is all organic, but ordered by the hand of man. you caught the shadows really nice. i can't stop looking at this i like it so much. could it be a UFO landing pad, LOL. take care, J.K.

Thanks J.K. for your comments. This was a special place and very photo-worthy. I didn't do anything special other than snap the shutter. I appreciate your thoughts and for speculating regarding some X-File phenomenon.

... when you have another key moment in your life. You and Deb experienced a magical moment here ... which means that you imbue the spot with that moment and add to its character. Now, if I can ask a question, in the "Things I love" forum, you posted an astonishing shot of your daughter. Will you post that in your portfolio?

Thanks. This does hold special significance in our lives. A true paradigm shift in terms of how the world and we were defined. I don't recall posting a photo of Gabi in the forum you mentioned. I took all the photos of the kids off the site once I discovered that several of them had been stolen and were being displayed on another site. If you can find the photo you mentioned, I'll slip it into one of my folders.

Anyhow, thanks always.

... no need if you have that reason. The shot was Gabi at the mirror, looking straight at you. It was wonderful.

I moved it back into the Humans Being folder. It was one of my favorites. Time flies very, very fast. It's hard to remember her being this little (and quiet).

This is one terrific shot.....the lighting, the shadows, the geometry. Then I read your story of how this location inspired you to adopt....very moving. I'll have to check out the picture of your daughter, as someone said it's elsewhere in your portfolio. It's nice to know that there are people of depth and substance here on PN. I'm enjoying the community! Bravo on this shot! By the way, where was this?

Thanks. This was in the St. George, Utah area. Now, two kids later, this seems like a long time ago. I've attached a current picture of my kids (I removed most of them when I discovered they had been abducted by another site and put up for sale--creepy).

OMG!!! That IS creepy! I can understand why you removed them, but thanks for sharing this. Your pride is obvious and very well-founded. It's a beautiful portrait, and you can 'read' so much in those faces. You can tell so much about someone's character through the eyes and facial features...looks like you have some great kids here. I'm so glad I didn't have to raise my kids (now almost 30---Yikes!) in the digital age...Facebook, internet porn, et al.....scary stuff. Thanks for sharing!
