will king 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Oh, I should not that the horizon is level. It appears to be tilted because of the uneven coast line. Link to comment
caincaptures 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Now that's a GREAT picture! The lighting is perfect and has a great feel to it. Very pleasing to the eyes! Link to comment
younes 0 Posted April 5, 2007 GReat comp Will! Superb light as well, the sunburst is perfect! I am not always a fan of central subjects but here you have done a masteful job. (that tilt is made to look worse than it is because of the pier). Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Thanks Julie. Younes, thanks for your comments. I struggled with composing the shot by aiming more to the left to off center the sun, but I would have lost some of the pier and I didn't want to make that compromise. Link to comment
timreaves 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Excellent high contrast work.......you are really skilled at this! Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Thanks Tim. I was on the fence about the contrast. I wanted to actually boost it a bit more but resisted the urge because I didn't want to lose any more detail in the blacks. Link to comment
lewandowski 0 Posted April 5, 2007 This is a very, very nice photo Will, it got that special mood, so realistic I want to grab a bottle of wine and sit on that pier. best regards, erik. Link to comment
ewert02 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Very nice, Will. Great mood and lighting. The composition is unique and works very well here. Superb. Link to comment

yinkamd 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Will, This is an excellent photo. I love the juxtaposition of the sky and the sea. The exposure is perfect (did you do any exposure blending?). I love the rays and the dark clouds. The sunset is amazing. My only reservation is with the grass in the foreground (not that you could have done anything about it). The grass and the tip of land appears straggly, not lush, which is in contradiction to the rest of the photo. Perhaps boost the saturation there some, and use some cloning? Just a suggestion. What do you think? Best wishes Yinka Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Thanks Daniel, Steve, and Andi. Thanks Yinka. Yes, this is a blend of two shots. One exposed for the wky and the other for the foreground. I agree about the grass. I wish it were more green and lush. I had to crop a bit from the bottom because it was even uglier. I did reprocess this to lighten up the bottom a bit more. It looked a tad bit better. newfocus 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Great use of the two exposures here Will. Works really well and instantly looks incredibly 'real' to me. I like the way the whole comp leads to the burst of sun too. Top shot. John. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Thanks Yinka, Ibrahim, John. John, if you don't know already, I'm a huge fan of your work. Link to comment

davidclapp 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Hi Will, here is my critique.... Wonderful god rays and a wonderful sunset, the gaps in the clouds are such relief arnt they! All the right elements here. The foreground isnt so good and makes me want to perform a square crop as the rest of the image works well. Regarding the technicals, this is a tricky composition to work with. The right hand side jetty looks too light on comparison to the other stakes which in this situation would definately go to shadow. The two lighter stakes I feel are too light and look like they are dodged, the actual walkway looks correct as I am sure this would be picking up the sunlight, BUT overall the balance feels very accurate with the rest of the photo. Secondly, I would cetainly use CS2's Lens correction filter as there is a large amount of distortion here, but again an easy fix. I find this an enjoyable image. I would personally have tried to secure a more interesting foreground, but this works well. Thanks for the Digital Photo comment, which image is it? Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Thanks Krista, David, Willy. David, there's really not much of an interesting foreground in this area, or any other area I live in for that matter. I see your point about the lightness of the poles. They were a little lighter than the rest of them but perhaps not that light. As far as lens correction. Are you referring to the horizon line? Oh, BTW. The photo was Three Knives. I'm suprised you haven't seen it yet. Link to comment
joe-tury 0 Posted April 8, 2007 I'm the only one who likes the foreground apparently!!! I think it adds texture. Nice rays. I think the sun position is a hair off but an all around great shot. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 8, 2007 Thanks AmirAli. Thanks Joseph. About did mean the placement of the sun should be more to the right? If, so I agree. Link to comment
