roman_gill 0 Posted November 20, 2000 MAGIC! Great light, great subject, etc... Wish I was there. Well done. Link to comment
puneet_sood 0 Posted November 20, 2000 Its a great photo. Did you use some color filter? How do you do the metering? Link to comment
fatboab 1 Posted November 20, 2000 Would have been better with the balloon illuminated by the burners. Just my opinion... Link to comment

Just my opinion..."Nah... illuminating the balloon would have made any text or advertising or color come out and clash with the natural tones of the photograph. The way it is now, it looks like someone just walked up to a painting and stuck the tab from a coke can onto it... lends some mystery and abstractness to it. I like it the way it is. Link to comment
kristin_brown 0 Posted November 20, 2000 I also like the balloon the way it is. Lovely photo. Link to comment
patanjali_parimi 0 Posted November 20, 2000 So ethereal, so lovely! I am just swept by the picture. BTW is the yellow-orange color natural? In fact, Peter's other pics in the folder are equally remarkable with good use of light. If the balloon were illuminated then it would almost merge with the background. Bob's suggestion doesn't work, I guess. Link to comment
Jim_Tardio 0 Posted November 20, 2000 I think it's a wonderful shot, Peter. I found your whole porfolio to be fantastic, and I urge the rest of you to check it out. Link to comment
legaleus 0 Posted November 21, 2000 I also encourage Photonetphiles to peruse Peter's other offerings. He posits wonderful composition, some delightful interpretaions of light and a refreshing eye. Bravo Peter! Link to comment
waikit_lau1 0 Posted November 21, 2000 The picture has a good balance that allows the center of gravity to be in the middle Link to comment
alan_krantz 0 Posted November 21, 2000 Is that a bit of flare from the left side -- would it be possible to reduce it at all -- otherwise great picture! Link to comment
c. wesley hardwick 0 Posted November 21, 2000 Peter, Excellent example of a "natural" available light photo. May I ask which lens you mated to the Eos 3 for this lovely shot? You can respond privately to: [ cwhard@worldnet.att.net ] if you like. Thanks! Link to comment
sporn_avner2 0 Posted November 21, 2000 It is nice, but i think the balon is too small. Link to comment
ara_kotchian1 0 Posted November 21, 2000 I wish I was in that baloon! Great photo. The rest of the photos are beautifull as well. Link to comment

point_w 0 Posted November 22, 2000 This picture reminds me of a story I read once.... forget the title. Man's jounery into the unknown Link to comment
vadim_makarov 0 Posted November 22, 2000 I know, I know, this wouldn't ruin a good photo, but... Where did that awful posterization in smooth tones come from? Did you submit it as a GIF or what? Link to comment
andy_gauntlett 0 Posted November 22, 2000 Great photo what a sky were you in a ballon? did you use a filter if so which? Link to comment
johnmarsden 0 Posted November 24, 2000 To crop or to crop? That is the question I feel the upper sky is too distracting leaving the small balloon unbalanced. I tried these two crops. I think I like the last one best. But overall I'm not that keen on the image anyway. Link to comment
martin_jiang1 0 Posted November 24, 2000 I dont think the last two crop works, you need the whole sky, especially the dark upper portion to boost the lonliness of the ballon, the orignal picture is the best you can do Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 24, 2000 I think this is a remarkable shot, because it works on many levels. The position of the balloon in the lower left exagerates the insignificance of mankind's flying machines vis a vis the vastness of the firmament. The position of the balloon in the band of light is genius--balloons navigate by following atmospheric strata. And the color of the sky emphasises that not only are the human passengers drifting perilously beyond the safety of the ground, but perilously beyond the safety of daylight, as well. This shot captures man's struggle against the constraints of space and time better than any other I have seen in here. Link to comment
ovidiu moise 0 Posted November 24, 2000 A very nice image with great composition. And the pastel colors are beautiful, too. Link to comment
claudia_mieras 0 Posted November 25, 2000 breathtaking. the composition and quality are superb. the effect would not have been the same with different lighting on the balloon. Link to comment
