Alphonse Allais, a french humorist, imagined something similar a looong time ago (120 years or so), he called it "Africans fighting in a cave at night" (well, he didn't say "africans", but it was another time and i don't want to be politically incorrect)...

If you plan another april fool next year, you could try others Allais jokes : do a white pic and call it "Premiere communion de jeunes filles chlorotiques par temps de neige" (First Holy Communion of Chlorotic girls in snowy weather), or this one : "Apoplectic cardinals gathering tomatoes on the shores of the Red Sea"...

I have remained silent regarding this photo, thinking surely more experienced photographers than I would have opened our eyes to the subliminal message embedded in this photo. The cat's postures ( collectively ) are no co-incidence. Look carefully and you can see ... well, you look again. If you've found humor in the photo as-is, then I'm sure you'll bust a gut when you see the subliminal message that purrs for attention.

This is a joke. Ok. Nothing to say about it.

The fact that a non-photography or non-image is top of the top states best that PN is going down and the interest for photography closes to 0.

Lately PN is all about advertising, subscribing and mate rating. I will never buy a subscription to photo.net.

It used to be my "second life". Not anymore.

true.. strange to rate this picture so high in fact, it's suppsoed to be lighthearted joke after all but some are taking it too seriously.. who really cares about rankings and ratings.. this site isn't a giant competition, well that's how I see it

Peter... after reading all the comments... and seeing that people actually saw 3 or 4 or however many black cats here... I HAD TO TRY MYSELF and adjust your under exposure. Sad thing is... I seriously did it, 'cause I really wanted to see these cats. Now... I'll have nightmares. Nice capture though.

It's finally nice to see work without the use of strobes or flash. Excellent composition and your use of the Photoshop burning tool is exceptional. I would recommend that you watermark your posts. It would be a shame to see this copied and used on another photographers site. Had a look at your portfolio and must say this is your best work to date :)

Technically excellent the subtle shades of black blending together to form a faultless canvas of myriads of swirling blacks reaching a climax of near orgasmic quality.

Picasso's eyes would have filled with tears to witness such a masterpiece of originality.

Mark, look more closely @ the photo. It already has one of those stealth digital-signature bar-coded watermarks. It's no surprise that some have missed it. It's all the rage in some upper-crust professional circles.

the cats have more character than most of the lame ones posted,e.g., cat sleeping on table, desk, floor. cat staring mindlessly into camera. cat pooping (actually just made that one up)...you catch my drift...

Peter, great shot, cats look amasing there, but....... I have just one question.... what the hell are you doing in the background there????

Peter.... You had it very near, and with my sharpening and framing... it is now perfect!

There are too many people that take each day much too seriously, I'm glad you are not one of those :-).... Mike

Better... Much better than gazillions of the dumbest fotkas possible with the dramatically contorted and weirdly twisted into the seductive shapes of hackencreuz - bodies of the women ( and sometimes - men) posted in here...

Well, well, well, the real trick now is to sell this digital version for the same value as the non-digital Kazimir Malevich painting was sold. Although the first 1915 version remained in a museum for nearly a century, the fourth version of his black square painted in the 1920s was discovered in 1993 and purchased by Inkombank for $250,000. In April 2002 the painting was auctioned for an equivalent of one million dollars by a philanthropist Vladimir Potanin, who donated fit to State Hermitage Museum collection.

I start the opening bid for this picture at 1 million Dollars (Zimbabwean Dollars).
