The colors are absolutely beautiful in this one. The windows almost look like a magic mirror with smoke swirling in them.

Jeff, the colors are as natural as they can be. The facade is made entirely of colored marble and the camera managed to capture the colors beautifully on that cloudy day, when I took this shot. As about the windows, well they really reflect the clouds on the sky; there was no fire (smoke) as far as I remember.

Great colors and detail.

This is such a powerful image. Aside from the immediate visual appeal, it also compels the viewer to consider the history of the structure and the society that produced it. It also makes me examine my own reaction to such images and makes me wonder about the underlying perceptual mechanisms that make such images as this one so attractive. It would seem that we are hardwired to appreciate fine-textured detail and contrasts.

   I know it is always hard to decide how to organize one's cherished images, but I think I would vote for putting this one in a "Duomo" folder along with your other fine pictures of this amazing building and its surroundings.
