If one wants to take a "postcard" picture (nothing negative implied here), then a foreground, possibly with some people in the picture, would be essential. However, for this picture I was more interested in the abstract shape of the rock formation and in the composition of colors than in the scale. As usual, there are different ways to skin a cat. Thanks for your critique.

My first reaction was to the subtle pastel colors surrounded by the earthtones, and it also does feel abstract to me, so I think you've accomplished your goal. Before reading what you said, Karl, I probably would have agreed with Peter on a little foreground, not so much for scale as for depth. I don't think that would make it postcard-like or typical in any way, but it might, as you suggest, make it lose some sense of abstraction.
