shadow-island 0 Posted March 23, 2007 I like the blend of old with the new. The cowboy surely looks the part and strikes a nice image. The phone is not distracting and adds a modern era to todays old west. Link to comment
Wayne Melia 6,074 Posted May 4, 2013 Good work, IMO.Initial graphic hook is provided by the lines of the hat shape, band, and brim. (The thumbnail gets opened). And the lines all point to the face. The square (-ish, I didn't actually measure it) format establishes the salt-of-the-earthishness of the subject, which is reinforced by the 'character lines' in his face, and again by the concentration of his contrasty eyes, and again by the set of his lips. The splash of colour in the ring further adds to his individuality, and the cell phone grounds his character as real, as opposed to a caraciture. We have an purposeful photograph with strong individual elements choreographed to synergize into a definitive portrayal of a human being and his character. And then as a further treat for responding to the previous, the viewer is rewarded by the tonality and texture of the vest and hand.I like it when a photo has the staying power to keep happening. Not to belittle, of course, the (choice of?) photogenic subject.
