Natural History

joel aron

Darwin's stomping grounds, and home to most of his research and findings. On the top floor, looking at the far wall. The gilded tiles of every finding in the ceiling, the stone monkeys that dot the pillars that support the walls, leading in to the iron leaf stencils of the frame work.. this building is stunning. We were one of the first people in the museum on Tuesday morning. Before the crowds that were directly below me had filled the main stairs. Handheld, at f/8, for 1/30th of a second, i grabbed this shot. It is one of two. This being the straight one. :) There is no photoshop, other than to remove some dirt, and clamp the highs. Being a non HDR image fan, I feel that using the zone system to dial an exposure can give you a greater feel for natural shadows, and true mid tones.Had I developed this, and shot an entire bracketed roll of this image, I would use a double developer process to get more information on the negative in the highs. There's always next time :)Leica M635mm Summicron f2 ASPHIlford Delta 400

Excellent image. Good composition, nice straight verticals, good tonal range, and fine detail. One of the best architectural images I've seen on the site. Thanks.

Brilliant photo. You must absolutely love your 35mm Summicron-M.....I have used the 35mm "cron-R" w/Canon 5D + adaptor and the quality just astounds me!

At any rate, fabulous detail and perspective; however, it is the tonal richness and the quality and balance of the light that make this particularly stunning.
