Guest Guest Posted March 23, 2007 I know I'm jumping the gun because you haven't put this up for critique yet, but this one really stands out to me. In my opinion, one of your most unique and best shots. It's all in the expression, just pulls me right in. It's so real and so genuine and so spur of the moment. Your technical stuff all seems perfect to me, exposure, blur, lighting, beautiful skin tone. Even the reflection in the eyes is just enough off center to go along with the whole uniqueness of the shot. A real special one! Link to comment
gerfoy3 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Cheers Fred, Looks like we have hit those weird rating moments on PN...I agree with all you said this is one I'm very happy with for a children shot it has all the right stuff in all the right places. Ger.. Link to comment
dee 14 0 Posted March 24, 2007 I'm gonna agree with Fred on this one Ger. It's a fantastic child portrait! Great expression, great tones, DOF,... Pretty much everything. I'm disapointed by the ratings it has recieved, and I think some of the problem might be in the thumbnail... To be honest with you, until I opened up the image, It looked like just an OK photo... Once I got to see it across my screen, it was a whole different photo. The people that see it in rate recent only get a smaller version, and I think that's why it's got lower ratings than it deserves. This should be all 6's and 7's. Link to comment
gerfoy3 0 Posted March 24, 2007 Thanks Darren, I was quite suprised with the rating maybe that explains it, cause I know enough about children photography at this stage to know a good one and I reckoned this was it.. Ger.. Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted April 15, 2007 You all know I don't do portraits myself but it's something I've been paying attention to lately because I would like to learn. I can understand the low ratings Ger. The DOF has been missed out on one of the most delightful parts of childhood - the soft whispy hair full of soft flyaway detail. As well, the shadow on her chubby little right cheek and the one across her neck and shoulder are distracting. Now all that being said, I agree that people have missed a wonderful expression by not opening up the thumbnail - it is a wonderful face. If I knew how to do the PS work, in my opinion this could be so much more than it is by turning it into one of those lovely high key images or at least I would give it a whirl just to see. I know I know 3/3's for me for a week. Sorry Ger! Link to comment
