darius.tulbure 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Wonderful photo, great tones and composition... except one thing - the halo around the rocks. Did you use Greg Gorman's method of desaturation? Link to comment
alones 2 Posted March 17, 2007 Beautiful photo , The blue tone create a powerful atmosphere Link to comment
will king 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Thank you all for your comments. Darius, I converted this to Lab Color, and used the lightness channel, changed to gray scale, changed back to RGB, increase contrast with curves, and colorized with Hue/Saturation and desaturated. Link to comment
tylerwind 0 Posted March 17, 2007 An absolutely amazing shot, Will! I love the sense of action, composition, and pleasant tones and contrast. This is a real winner--strong work! Link to comment
paulbgardner 0 Posted March 18, 2007 The haloing around the edges is kind of out of control and there are sensor patterns (matrix filter) that are showing in the shadows. it looks like you tried to pull out detail in the shadows that didnt exist in the first place. The image ends up looking oddly inverted. The composition and timing of the waves coming in during the exposure are perfect. The processing just needs some work. Paul Link to comment
fergi 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Very interesting format. I like this shot a lot, yet one never sees this type of scene in black and white. Sweet.fergi Link to comment
will king 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Thanks all for your comments and critiques. Paul, very good observations. I would agree with all your comments. As you could imagine, this was a very difficult situation to properly expose. The unique black rocks were extremely difficult to squeeze for any detail, thus the grid lines appear after post processing. I didn't think they would show at this size. Again, good catch and thanks for your honest feedback. Link to comment
stormchaser 0 Posted March 18, 2007 I love these photos were everything appears so smooth. I can never get that! Great work. Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Apart from the halo most prominent around the left rock, I like this a lot. This is a very dynamic seascape & I like the composition with the wave action framed between the 2 main rock faces. Link to comment
younes 0 Posted March 18, 2007 This is beautiful shot! I love the monochrome treatment. The composition is superb. Very well done! Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted March 18, 2007 Great composition and perspective Will. However, it looks as though some of the darker areas have been dodged too much, resulting in wash-outs (center, distant rock) and noise issues (dark rock on left and right edges). I'd go back this one and correct those minor processing issues before printing. This image deserves it. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Thanks Marc. Yeah, I was trying anything and everything to bring some detail out and not have it completely black. I guess it would have benefited this shot if it were black instead of changing the integrity of the photo. Thanks so much for commenting. You probably already know that you're, hands down, my favorite photographer. Link to comment

will king 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Yeah, the glow was from me trying salvage some detail in the rocks. I absolutely love Hawaii. Did you make it to the Road to Hana and Haleakala Crater? Link to comment
