rob scott 0 Posted March 18, 2007 I'm sure this photo coincided with the recent anniversary of the Battelle of Iwo Jima, and yes it was both terrible and inspiring. As photographer's we are mostly aware that Rosenthal's photo was one of wonderful luck and skill. He only had time to swing his big Graflex around, over his shoulder, long enough to shoot the image that has become iconic for the the United States Marines.
