Noel:

I'm intrigued by this image. To my classical (and I suppose traditional) eye, I would probably crop the bottom third. But my eye still wants to travel to the highlight at the base of the neck and the whispy hair, rather than the usual emphasis on face and eyes. And since I took a look at your portfolio, I realize that this was not a mistake. I'm sure it is intentional, as is the light windowsill 'bisecting' her head. So what am I missing? Going back to your way of seeing (rather than mine), you also left in the long line of the arms leading me to her neck and shoulders. So, this is not about a pretty face (although she is a stunning model) but about posture and attitude.

And the more I look, the more I see her curves set within a linear background, making her distinct and unique. And the midrange tones of her skin emerging out of the blackness of her dress and background bring her to life as a separate and distinct person.

Thanks for letting me use your image to learn something new today. New about the deliberate construction of a photograph and about the way I see. And a lesson learned about not substituting my way of seeing for another's. Had I simply recommended in my comments a crop to the lower third, and moved on, I would have missed out on what you had to offer. By working at it a little, I have gained a new appreciation of this image in particular, and your work in general. Thanks for the opportunity. You have a fine eye and are able to convey your intentions, even to 'dunderheads' like me.

An absolutely stunning portrait. Tom hit the nail on the head mentioning "posture and attitude." The highlight on the neck adds to the sensuality of the picture by subtly emphasizing that area. 7/7 in my book.

Thanks for all your comments. And Tom, you have really convey my intentions well. Cool! I think you are the first whom actually "feel" for a photo and not just by looking a it. Thank you very much.
