No matter how you tweaked it, it is still a nicely composed shot. The color enhancements make it just that much more intriguing.

Matthew,

Wow, you really caught a magical scene. Very dramatic light. In my opinion, the composition could have been improved by not centering the sun and the horizon in the middle.

beautiful shot, and i know it breaks the rule of thirds, and that you shouldn't have the horizon in the middle, but for some reason, in my opinion, i find that regardless of all that it works perfectly in this shot. I'm not exactly sure how much you boosted the saturation in this (if you did), but it's just on the edge of reality, so it works.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on this photo. I brought out some highlites in the ocean and the rocks, but didn't tweak the saturation much at all, it was a spectacular sunset. I do realize I broke the rules, but I couldn't bear to lose any more sky, or any more foreground as this was as wide as my 17-40 would go without showing my grad ND filters. Thanks again for all the feedback. Cheers, -Mathew Cook-

Mathew-

Great work here. I would not change the capture at all, as the rule of thirds demands to be broken on a sight like this. I like the softness of the waves but the red of the sunset is phenomenal. You are my new favorite red sunset photog. Thanks for sharing.

Some very impressive reds here, and the water does a great job holding that strong color which I would say is borderline over-the-top, but most are going to like it that way. I personally would have prefered a more dynamic range of exposure without the complete shadows at lower-right. Just a hint of detail in there would make for a more balanced composition IMO, but a minor point. The sunset sky and sea alone are rarely enough for me, being such a widely used subject. Additionally, the 'rule' of thirds, is absolutely not a rule, but rather a suggestion that will more often that not benifit a composition, but simply cannot be applied best in every single case.

When I saw this photo, I was shocked. The reflections on the water have made this photo stunning. Undoubtedly this is one the best photoes I have seen on internet. I can feel anger and tenderness of the nature in this picture together.

Simply breathtaking! Brings out the tropics, and blends it into the sea..if there were possible!
