lbattjes 0 Posted March 14, 2007 OK, this shot made the purchase of the D200 worth every penny...just beautiful. As mentioned, it feels like you could step right into it. Nice perspective, BTW. Also, I like how the rocks in back seem like they are at the edge of the world...very intriquing. Can't wait to see the rest, since we all know you keep the best for last :) Les Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted March 15, 2007 Thanks Captain - I hope you're right ........ This was taken Sunday morning - the sunrise to my left. And I was walking toward those spires in the distance - so there's a clue as to what's to come - (-; ... Link to comment

alberto.conde 0 Posted March 15, 2007 Delicate sky and good use of the wide angle. I like the B&W conversion, Ken.My only doubt is wether the scenary was like that or you used, first, the CAT D12 adapter to get such beautiful rocks scattered all around... in such a coral way.;-) Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted March 16, 2007 Mauricio, Bente and Alberto - many thanks for stopping by - it means alot ... Link to comment
1000wordsphotography 0 Posted March 17, 2007 As close to perfect as I have seen on this site Ken. Sort of surreal. What is the dark shadow in the extreme foreground? Link to comment
dennisdixson 0 Posted March 17, 2007 So this is where everyone is hanging out. This is nice and the black & white looks classic. It's so colorfull there that I never thought about anything other than color. Great work. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Nice to see you GJ - I still have a ways to go to match the best this site has to offer - the caliber of Vincent Tylor, Bobby Douglas, Leigh Perry, Richard van Hoesel, Walter Tatulinski, Nana Sous Diaz, etc. - but I'm working on it - (-; ........ I wondered if anyone would mention the shadow - it's my traveling companion - I noticed it when shooting but decided to leave it there - sol ... Hello DD - it was overcast most of the time and not as colorful as on a sunny day. I knew when I was shooting many of them that I'd end up converting them to b&w .... thanks for stopping by Buddy - (-; .. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 18, 2007 Stunning! Of course I agree how beautiful the rocks are... but.. the water is so sheer... I love this shot Ken! Angela... PS... I keep forgetting you didn't post it for ratings...lol.. I keep trying to give you 7's :) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 18, 2007 I love the composition because of the light and shadow play and the dispesion of the rocks, The dark FG. vs. the bright sky. Beautiful in B/W Ken. Link to comment
donnaalbers 0 Posted March 18, 2007 What a remarkable shot, Ken. . I'm sure glad you finally made it to the beach. . the composition is so intricate and yet so perfect. I like the way the light reveals the contrast of the hard texture of rocks against the soft waves. . Link to comment
leannasreflections 0 Posted March 20, 2007 Beautiful B&W of one of my favorite places. I havent been in a few months and this makes me want to go even more. Great shot Ken. :O) Link to comment
vincetylor 0 Posted March 20, 2007 Nice work KW! You've always had a knack for B&W pal. Happy to see you make it back to the seashore too. Two minor suggestions here from me. I'd probably like to see the top left sea stack with just a little space to breathe. Though that is just a personal preference. And secondly, because the rocks and shoreline are darker, it may have been a better balaced image if you used an ND here. The sky looks a little bit too bright, especially when compared with that darker shoreline. Here is an attachment with some minor adjustments to both. Still VERY nice capture just as it is. Look forward to more from you! Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted March 21, 2007 Hello Vince - thanks for czeching in Buddy ....... It's cropped a little all around so adding breathing room is doable - and I think I agree (!) .... No ND Grad for this lens yet - I went with the polarizer first but it became apparent right away it's a necessity ......... Soooo you're Ok with the shadow? (-; Leanna it is sweet isn't it - thanks for stopping by .... ! Donna thank you for sharing that - I've been in that still-life dungeon so long I squinted most of the trip - (-; .... I made lots of mistakes and learned alot from this venture outdoors - thank you again .. Pnina your time means so much - thank you sweet Lady (-; .. Angela your words mean far more - I appreciate your thoughts very much ... ! Link to comment
tylerwind 0 Posted March 21, 2007 Ken--This is a very pleasing and eye-catching image. I really like it but I also agree with Vince's comments (when in doubt, agreeing with Vince is usually a good option to make you look smart!) I would like to see the composition to include a little room for the rock on the far left (or maybe just shift the whole composition)--I feel like that would give a better balance to the scattered rocks (I know that statement is a bit of an oxymoron, but you get the point) I do think the sky is a bit bright too. On one hand I think that is pleasing because it highlights the rocks but on the other hand it does come across as a bit bright and I think if you darkened it you would have a better overall balance and also get more texture out of the sky, making the top of the shot more interesting. (so, pros and cons for both, but I'd probably vote for a darker sky overall) It looks like there were some decent clouds for interest but they are a bit washed out. Your companion's shadow doesn't really bother me...to be comletely honest if you hadn't pointed it out I wouldn't have ever notice. In the end, this is a truly outstanding shot. Your composition is very, very strong--I like the long rock most prominent in the foreground and the other rocks scattered throughout. Furthermore, the lines and curves from the water (combined with the slight reflective quality of the wet sand) is very nice. Overall, this is a wonderful image. I guess I would say there is room for some improvement but it's pretty doggone good...you get a 6/7 from me only because I have to leave some slight room for improvement. Keep up the good work! I'm going to be by to visit your portfolio and see what other great images you have--I learn a lot from viewing the work on outstanding photographers like yourself. Link to comment
