It seems you went to a lot of trouble for this shot and it was worth every bit of it. I am curious though is the match coated in resin or is that water shining on the match. Ive always been facinated by shots like this. I did something similar to this but with a broken light bulb. If your interested http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5586579.

The boxing skull (lightbulb) shot is wonderfull, except that when the wife gets back she will ask why the appartment is so dark, after i try it my self. I think the liquid is water, it wasnt coated in anything by me, but the tree sap/fire retardent/water or whatever liquid there is in the match comes out when it boils, and i think the products of combustion of hydrocarbons (cellulose) in oxygen are CO2 and water so maybe it condences on the first cold thing it meets. The smoke on the bulb is scary though, i hate to think what that has in, hopefully the flat won't smell too much of mercury :)
