I can't decide if I like this idea and should explore it again, or if

I'm just wasting my time. Any comments or direction would be

appreciated.

Time is never wasted if you try new things! I like the abstract idea of this one.Maybe a little crop from the bottom at the point where the diagonal starts right in the picture?

I personally think that this image could be interesting if you created a completely sharp and in focus version, playing off the the geometry of the chain links. Or had a narrower depth of field and more colour. I'm guessing you could shoot this with your focus set closer so you don't see as much clear detail in the BG. You could do this without bringing the foreground abstraction into focus. However, if it is more blurred I think you really need more colour in the composition.
