darren 0 Posted April 29, 2002 Please offer any advice you can - this girl is extremely photogenic, and I want to do her justice! Is the skin tone too dark? Background too boring? Link to comment
hexenwolfe 0 Posted April 30, 2002 The eyes look artificial and the smile is too rigid. Let her relax and go for the natural look. You are right, she is a pretty little girl. (EXCUSE ME... An attractive young lady!) *S* Link to comment
ed_berman6 0 Posted April 30, 2002 also pay more attention to the light, in this picture it is extremely flat. Link to comment
jim_c 0 Posted May 1, 2002 To me what's amiss with the eye's is simply where the catchlight's are reflecting, on the pupil's. Other wise her eye's are very well exposed. I do feel if she was asked to relax her smile a little bit, it would improve this photo. Link to comment
darren 0 Posted May 1, 2002 Thanks for the comments, all. The flat lighting and the catchlights on the pupils are both caused by using on-camera flash. I'll experiment to see how I can improve those aspects, although I can't afford an off-camera flash at the moment. The comments on her expression are helpful, too. When you look at a photo of someone you know well, it's hard to critically analyse something like an expression. You see what you expect to see, not what others experience. She does have those amazing eyes in real life, though. Thanks again! Link to comment
jim_daily 0 Posted May 3, 2002 Even with the B&W, you can tell how amazing her eyes must be. Call me a color-chauvenist, but I think it'd be interesing to see a similar shot done in color. I hear ya about not being able to get an off-camera flash right now. While I hate to advocate what might considered cheating, maybe a little tweaking with photoshop would be in order to remove the light in here eyes. I like your choice of background. It really seems to spotlight the model. Link to comment
GerrySiegel 868 Posted July 25, 2002 I really like Kayla's face. The eyes have a spectral quality becaue of the large iris and almost invisible pupil. Also,I am thinking that the eyelid is almost too wide,as though a pre-flash created a little tightening of the muscles. And as a mild suggestion, the right arm is holding on to or braced against the play slide and my eye searches for a hand. Or says, crop the arm and just show the face. Looks like you got a portrait subject for at least 5 years Darren, my experience is that later on they want money or movie tickets. A pleasant informal portrait. I like it needless to say.
