geekinthegarden 0 Posted March 12, 2007 what i like about this shot is the reflection. that said i think bird (and critter shots generally) are not as effective if the subject does not fill at least 25-40% of the image... this image would be better if the heron were more of a focal point with the grass being much less of a point. of course large bodies of water can limit how close we get and 500mm telephotos don't grow on trees! one last suggestion is to move the primary subject out of center. in this case with the bird walking to the left you might move the bird further to the right edge... it creates the sense that the bird has a path, somewhere to go in the image.
