richygale 0 Posted March 1, 2007 what a shame this isn't sharp as it would be a cracking photo. Rich. Link to comment
tereay 0 Posted March 2, 2007 All the sharpness goes to the branch, Mary :) But the birds make for a very interesting image, almost as though they were painted on the picture as an afterthought, making this, not really a bird photo, but a very interesting Chinese style painting ... Link to comment
mary fran 0 Posted March 2, 2007 Thanks Teresa, I'm in the process of deciding on the best lens to purchase for small birds in flight and missing this shot is exactly how I am justifying the expenditure! Link to comment
samcisa 0 Posted March 2, 2007 Mary, I don't know why you think you need another lens. It would help if you write what was the shutter speed, ISO and f stop. This was very fast movement, but I still somehow believe that you could freeze them a bit more with your lens if you opened up the aperture or increased ISO, or better both. I believe it wasn't very dark. Focus was spot on, so it's only motion blur. There are better and faster lenses of course, but significantly better ones cost and weight like small cars. With anything between, you are getting for example 1 f stop at best. There are some good relatively inexpensive Sigmas, but no IS etc... Link to comment
rafikrkamel 1 Posted March 4, 2007 hi mary lovely caprure, i second samir here, we need more info on the shot to get a better perspective. lovely moment captured here, just wish it was a sharp shot, regards, RK! Link to comment
mary fran 0 Posted March 4, 2007 Sorry so long , had to find the shot. Was in auto mode so it wasn't ideal: Shutter speed 1/320, Aperture 5.6,Iso 400, Focal Length 260. My biggest problem is getting it to focus fast enough and getting a wider or deeper (?) DOF. Info says the focus here was off to the right of the upper bird. Did adjust ISO today and that helps some, but these little birds are fast for the eye let alone a camera. This was a chance occurence, would have been nice to have another lens (faster) on the 5D handy to grab for when this kind of thing happens. I can only catch the small ones in the air if I luck out and anticipate their path but too narrow a focus area and to slow to follow any distance and nail one sharp. Also, I'll be at a very close range trying for the most part. Link to comment
samcisa 0 Posted March 4, 2007 Then it was pretty dark and f4 lens wouldn't help a lot. With 800 ISO maybe but with some noise. Link to comment
