I got real lucky with the borealis with this one, stumbled upon this farm just as the borealis lit up and couldn´t resist taking a picture. Think this is my favorite photo in February.

I swear, no photo manipulation here, all I did was some curves adjustments and then sharpened after resizing. I almost think there are too many stars in this one but not like I was going to edit them out, hehe.

Can anyone spot the three shooting stars?

Thisisi amazingly beautiful! Why does it look like the hillside is on fire at the end of the road? Your title is very apt!

I have never used the word perfect before, but this has to be....quite awesome. Congratulations on such a beautiful scene.

Best regards Michael.

Would you provide exposure details? I am interested to know what length of time you kept the shutter open and what ISO you were shooting at. I'm not aware of any setting at this 24mm wide angle that will capture so many thousands of stars (even in pollution-free Iceland) without a long exposure and a motor drive. But unless this is a composite of multiple photos (i.e. a manipulation), then with any exposure longer than maybe 90 seconds these stars would be star trails. Yet here, both the foreground and the sky are static, so I suppose this must be an impressive function of the 5D?s image sensor. Would you mind providing these details? Thanks, and thanks for posting this terrific image.

Patrick: Sure, no problem, settings were 20 seconds, f2.0 and iso 1600, overexposed the shot about half a stop and darkened in raw conversion to keep the noise at a minimum :)

Another wonderful caputure! I?m quite jealous. I?ve had 3 clear nights (two of which were partly cloudy) this month here in Akureyri to capture the auroras. The star field in the background is spectacular as is the random shooting star. Wonderful composition and colour. I can?t wait to see what you capture next LᲵs!

Kelly Phillips is right - there is some idiocy going on in the rating system. I think this is probably the most extraordinay aurora photo I've ever seen, because of the presence of the star field, ground image with nice depth, and I also like the clouds to the left, illuminated by the town in the distance, I'm guessing. Superb work!

Simply beautiful. I am guessing that this is approx. 15 - 20 sec. exposure? The aurora and the star field is excellent. Great work!

stunning photo, love the colors and the light at the end of the road, not to mention the fantastic sky! ISO1600 wow! I envy canon owners for having the opportunity to shoot such smooth photos even at high ISO values.
