Snowy reflections

karl.jahr

I used Photoshop Elements 2 to manipulate this picture of reflections in the circular screen of a lamp in my sunroom. I inverted the selection of the screen and removed brightness and contrast, thus making the surrounding area black. Then I used the unsharp mask to sharpen the reflected picture and added about 20% brightness and contrast. This is what I got.

I took this picture today, Feb 25 2007. What it is? I have a table

lamp with a round plastic screen of about 15" diameter that has

engraved concentric circles representing what physicists would call a

"Fresnel" lens. The lamp stands in my sun room and created this

virtual image of the snow laden trees outside. I processed the picture

with Photoshop Elements 2 and took the following steps:

1. Select the inverse of the round lamp shade

2. Set brightness and contrast of the selected area to the lowest

level, thus making the background black.

3. Select the circle and sharpen it using the "unsharp" filter to

sharpen to taste

4. Increase brightness and contrast by approximately 20% each
