Guest Guest Posted February 18, 2007 Wow! Now this is the sort of image I find really exciting. The light and the colors are terrific. (Meant to give you a 7/7, but the system didn't let me.) Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Here's a true story: I sat down on a bench, looked up at the scene you see here, and thought 'this is a perfect Matthias Steup shot.' Then I clicked the shutter. Had I not familiarised myself with your outstanding portfolio I would never have seen this shot, thanks for opening my eyes. Dave Link to comment
richygale 0 Posted February 19, 2007 good lighting intresting place, using colour works very well for this image. Link to comment
j.k._york 0 Posted February 19, 2007 to me it has a kubrick symmetry feel to the composition. sterile. a great shot. really well seen. regards, J.K. Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Richard, glad you like it! Thanks for stopping by. JK, wow you really inflate my ego, Kubrick! Thanks. I feel more like a discoverer than a photographer on this shot, I'm kind of amazed that this sort of space exists. Link to comment
lesa jones 0 Posted February 20, 2007 Simple and yet complex...way to go Dave! I like the various lines and light forms in the image. Hey, next time your there...see what you can do with just the mail boxes themselves..in a repeated symmetry sort of form. The flourescent light may be difficult to work with, but still interesting. Congrats my friend.....LJ Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted February 20, 2007 Thanks Lesa, and good idea about the mailboxes. The front of the scene is lit by a big window, so the white balancing made the lights a little bit green. I think thats where the intricate color vocabulary came from. Dave Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted February 21, 2007 Yes, you certainly have got a keeper here. A very striking composition and not an easy one to pull off. I love that you saw this angle. Also the nice work on the multiple light sources the white balance and shadow areas look really good. Link to comment
m_akin 2 Posted February 21, 2007 very good composition with geometrical figures..and nice pastel colors..congrats.regards Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted February 22, 2007 I like the compo here and how the central element plays the stability pillar (in terms of colors and illumination)...well done. Link to comment
lesa jones 0 Posted February 25, 2007 Dave...thanks for your recent support of my ballet pix as I stated, I getting ready to shoot another performance. On another note, I would like to urge you to voice your opinion on the advertisements that are now shown with our images. My personal opinion is that there is a serious ethical issue involved here. I don't agree with it at all. Our images are being used as bait in order for advertisers to blast you when one opens a pic to view larger. Advertisers and thus PN, ultimately make money off the popularity of our images. Does this seem right to you? If not, I respect your position, but I urge you to voice your opinion either way. I posted this in general forum this morning, as well as one of my pics in the critique forum with a BEWARE warning. Thanks again for your support of my work, input of any kind, and being a photography pal.....LJ Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted February 25, 2007 Thanks Laurent, Lesa, Tom. Lesa keep an eye peeled for e-mail. Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted February 26, 2007 Great shot. I would increase brightness and contrast a little. It could also use a little noise reduction, but I can only tell that because of the very high resolution present when you click "Larger." Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted February 27, 2007 Jamie -- true. It's a cheap camera that I take just about everywhere, so there is some noise unless I peg it a ISO 100. Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted February 27, 2007 I see. My trick is to convert to LAB colour space, to blur the A and B colour planes but not the luminance (L) plane, and then to convert back to RGB colour space. Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted February 28, 2007 Want to retract that 6/7? That camera about lives in my pocket. Hm, if I want to try your trick and get lost, can I contact you?? Link to comment
bleedingashes 0 Posted February 28, 2007 Great picture, a sort of modern architechture felt even in such a domestic element of design, great light, shadows and idea. Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted March 2, 2007 Contact me anytime you want! And it's worth taking with a better camera for a 7/7 that will enlarge better! Link to comment
